I created the software PC diagnostic that I named QAPlus Advanced Diagnostics or QAPlus, in 1986, using diagnostics code I purchased from Delta Data and wrapping the software product in a Turbo Pascal shell that I wrote which allowed the addition of other programs, including PowerMeter PC Benchmarking Software. When the advance to Remote Control software titles like Carbon Copy Plus and PC Anywhere appeared on the PC market, I immediately added a OEM version to QAPlus so that a PC User could dial up for help to a Tech Support Rep at my software company that I named DiagSoft, Inc. It was 1990, and the Creative Sound Blaster was launched in Singapore and I brought home a board and added it to QAPlus, so that the Diags could talk… We added Intel Corporation as an investor to DiagSoft in 1992, I repurchased their equity in DiagSoft in 1995.
In 1992 we added the Sound Bytes from Star Trek via a OEM agreement, and QAPlus could use Star Trek sound bytes, like “run diagnostics, I want an answer!” by Piccard… Later in 1994 I introduced a new version of our software that I called ETSC (Electronic Technical Support Center) this version had evolved to using our own DiagSoft code. We had a 30 x 40′ booth at Comdex that year in the Hilton Hotel, and over 5,000 people came to watch our advanced Audio Visual presentation using a live actor in a NASA outfit, and a 60″ Big Screen TV built into the stage backdrop that was painted to look similar to the bridge of the StarShip DiagSoft. Sykes, Inc. purchased DiagSoft, Inc. in Aug. 1996.
Today in eLearning the same Tech Support and Teacher Aid (Tutor) is required to improve the education process. Most Operating Systems today have the ability of remotely running another’s computer or watching what the user is doing on theirs…
The acceptable usage of this ability to operate, support, and observe is needed for eLearning to gain success. Companies like Sykes, Inc. located in Tampa, Florida will probably want to evolve into this emerging market, since funding is available from many sources for eLearning companies.
